While co-hosting our "4-H Club" radio show in Sioux City (which was technically a pirate program on a college station - a college none of us attended. But that's a full story for another day.), MC Brew and I
were on-air discussing Hip-Hop artists who sampled Jazz musicians. When he
mentioned Grover Washington Jr, The Top Civilian burst out, "The
president?!"
DJ Poyo - in the background eating a sandwich - started laughing to himself and smacked Top Civilian in the back while I interjected, "That was Grover Cleveland!"
As Brew undoubtedly face palmed and audibly groaned into the mic, Top C retorted, "In actuality, both played the saxophone."
And like clockwork, the two emcees began freestyling about brass instruments and 19th century US presidents over the break-bed beat as I tried move on to the next segment.
Truly summarizes the epitome of those guys.

The Gateway Drug is an award-winning Hip-Hop group from Sioux City, Iowa. Made up of MC Brew (emcee), DJ Poyo (producer/deejay) and The Top Civilian (emcee), The Gateway Drug is known for their funkdafied jungle beats, tongue-twisting freestyles, philosophical musings, spaced-out and bass heavy instrumentation and off-the-wall, thought provoking lyrics. They are "synonymous with dope", and coming back in a big way in 2018.
