Running Laps on Tracks with PCS

The Purveyors of the Conscious Sound (a.k.a. PCS) run Omaha.

Literally. The Hip-Hop quartet must run the paved avenues, the gravel roads, the trails and the parks because the group’s third album ‘Lifers 2’ contains sixteen tracks perfect for the track.

Maybe a 5K cardio workout wasn’t what producer Andy “DJ Boony Tunes” Boonstra had in mind when composing the beats for the 2013 release, but wicked heavy electro melodies in tandem with acoustic guitar, violin and grand piano refrains set a great pace. The swarming brass of “Ketchup” will quicken your step and help you catch the pack. On the flip side, the music sometimes gives you a self-reflective moment to check your pulse and catch your breath. (“Wish You Off” and “Hate and the Sound” are standouts.)

Yes, the music easily stands on its own, but couple the heart pumping beats with heartfelt lyrics and you have an unbeatable cross-training combo.
Wordsmith rappers Dawscyclops and MC Topic alongside powerhouse vocalist Liz Graham deliver three personal platforms from three distinct lanes upon one thumping canvas that pounds the pavement to prove the point.

Echoed by several allusions to running and moving forward, PCS takes us for a gritty, urban jog that is also free and breezy enough for country back roads stroll. Whether leading us to the frontlines with a hymn (“The Battle”) or acting as a baton flipping relay team of tongue twisting emcees (“Pat Swayze”), PCS’s head-trip-guides tour the listeners across emotional plateaus and valleys with uncompromising force and gusto.

‘Lifers 2’ will not only keep you in the cardio zone with its booming BPMs, but the narrative will keep your mind running laps as well. So, lace 'em up and get moving!
