Why are Birthdays Worth Celebrating?

Hot take without cake (and don't even get me started on candles):

Once you reach the milestone of adulthood, birthdays should be meaningless.

What's left to celebrate? The ability to rent a car, run for U.S. president or subscribe to AARP's magazine?

If your answer to why b-days matter to anyone over the age of 18 is, 'Birthdays remind us to celebrate life', try living life every day and not needing to wait to be the superficial center of attention for 24 hours for simply existing.

Birthday parties and wishes seem like an archaic holdover from the Middle Ages to simply commemorate that you made it another year without dying from a plague or famine. Congrats?

Sure, I'll cede the fact that turning 100 years old is pretty spectacular and should be lauded. Now that's an accomplishment.

But if anything, each single person should annually celebrate Mother's Day on his/her date of birth since it was Mom who actually labored for nine months.
