The Thrill Ain’t Gone

What’s a thrill to you now? Taking a ‘sick day’ to play golf? Receiving an e-mail about a winning eBay bid? Finally able to pay off that pesky credit card balance? The waitress forgetting to charge you that appetizer?

Wow…don’t get too excited there, Ben Stein.

Life is still stimulating and unpredictable, right? Right?!?!

So, answer me some more rhetorical questions:

[It just got real.]

Are you slowly melting into a pool of responsibility, deadlines, bills and pressures to fit into adulthood?
Feeling like every day is just a monotonous extension of yesterday?
Cynical of new happenings before even encountering them?

…Has your completely youth evaporated?

No, I don’t possess a magic elixir from a certain fountain [yet]; just a series of reminders worth recreating that may just bring back some childish
anxious and eager energy.

Fans of nostalgia and BuzzFeed should read on!

Back in the day, every passing moment was a new heart-pounding experience. The nervous exhilaration of being a kid was awesome.

Short of standing atop a snow-covered mountain with a York Peppermint Pattie in hand, for me, these memories were undeniably ecstatic!

Do you remember these youthful sensations?

-The pure delight of running down the street, shouting to no one, while getting soaked from an unexpected rainstorm
-The sense of being too excited sleep because of what lay ahead tomorrow
-The tremble of butterflies in your stomach as you attempt to talk to the brunette you have a crush on
-The thrill from hearing your voice on the radio after prank calling the deejay
-The excitement of running home after school, dropping off your backpack, grabbing a fresh chocolate chip cookie from the kitchen table and rushing back out the door to meet the neighborhood kids for some basketball
-The adventure of taking your first solo trip behind the wheel in your very own car
-The smell of blueberry muffins on a Sunday morning while reading the baseball box scores in the paper before Church
-The joy of showing up to school rocking the freshest new gear
-The elation of hitting your first home run during a big game
-The glee of meeting all your friends at the first Friday night football game of the season
-The weird euphoria of going to your first boy-girl party
-The enjoyment from breaking the seal on a new CD by your favorite band and popping it into the CD player—and not removing it for weeks
-The bliss of not knowing what actually comes with your wish of “wanting to be grown up”

Ahhhhh….teh feelz!
