“In case you missed it” Album Review
Animal Teef- Better Than a Miracle
Getting right down to brass tacks is how Animal Teef best operates. Never one to mince words, the Pine Ridge, South Dakota-bred emcee can carve through the English language with the most agile and powerful verses, no matter if live on stage or preserved on record. After years performing on stage with other top Siouxland Hip-Hop artists, Teef finally unleashed and released ‘Better Than a Miracle’ in the fall of 2012.
Available as a free download, the 24-minute mix produced by Restless, ‘Better Than a Miracle’ is a boom-bap Hip-Hop tour de force. Leaving no time to take a breath, Animal Teef runs laps around sampled tracks letting the wordplay fly in a fast-paced and fluid extravaganza. There are more than numerous ‘rewind’ moments here as you’ll need an instant second listen just to comprehend some of the crazy metaphors and phrases just flipped. He wouldn’t seem out of place at all in a ‘90s New York City rap circle surrounded by RedMan, CL Smooth and Grand Puba.
Not only is skill on full display, but Teef also wrestles heavy issues down to the lowest common denominator and reflects the image of the trampled on everyman. ‘Better Than a Miracle’ tackles the headlines and serves as a diatribe flushing out the underbelly of the American condition. Simply put, Animal Teef is a rapper’s rapper that deserves your every acknowledgment.
